about

Inspired by a young man's experience of a painful breakup with his high school girlfriend when he went to college in the Pacific Northwest where there was, well, a LOT of rain. He talked about the pain he was going through trying to get over his first love, and how struck he was by the way his moods shifted when he saw even "one dark cloud". I also was reminded of my own experience of being pretty devastated when dumped by my high school girlfriend shortly after we got to college. This is my version of "Breaking Up Is So Very Hard To Do":). Hope it speaks to you.

lyrics

I wake up when I want to wake up
Then I sit in the sun
Drink my coffee, read the paper
Just as long as I want
My friends tell me that I’m lucky
But they know I’ve got this one
Fatal flaw

All it takes to change my mood
Is the intrusion of one dark cloud
I get all philosophical
My thoughts travel south
The smell of wet drops on concrete
And I start to see things
As they really are

Heaven sent reminders
Splashing off stones

Why is it always the rain
Insisting that I remember
Spilling down windows
On a campaign
To make sure I miss you
All over again

Well I can’t turn back the clocks
And make it all work out just fine
I’m wet and cold
There’s nothing I can do
But just go back inside
Cause it keeps raining
Yeah guess I feel like staying
In this blue mood all day

Watching heaven sent reminders
Splashing off stones

Why is it always the rain
Insisting that I remember
Spilling down windows
On a campaign

Oh why is it always the rain
Insisting that I remember
Spilling down windows
On a campaign
To make sure I miss you
All over again

Reminding me there's nothing I can do
Until the sky turns blue
